¿Qué tan seguro estás de que tu “vida privada” es realmente privada? ¿En algún momento has tenido la sensación que alguien te está vigilando?

[…] Las primeras líneas aparecían sin saludo ni presentación:
Un bonito día Caperucita Roja decidió llevar una cesta con alimentos deliciosos a su querida abuela, que vivía al otro lado de un bosque denso y oscuro… Seguro que has oído este cuento cuando eras niña. Pero probablemente te contaron la versión más benévola: en la que la abuela se esconde en el armario y Caperucita Roja se salva de convertirse en el siguiente ágape del lobo feroz gracias a la aparición de un valiente cazador armado con un hacha. En esa versión todos acaban «felices y comiendo perdices». Pero así no acababa el cuento original. En él el resultado era muy distinto y mucho más siniestro. Durante años ha sido objeto de interpretación por parte de académicos y psicólogos. Sería recomendable que lo tuvieras en cuenta durante las semanas siguientes. No me conoces, pero yo a ti sí. Sois tres. He decidido llamarlas: Pelirroja Uno. Pelirroja Dos. Pelirroja Tres. Sé que las tres están perdidas en el bosque. Y al igual que la niña del cuento, has sido elegida para morir.

John Katzenbach nos sorprende con esta historia de suspense, intriga y terror psicológico acerca de un escritor que está escribiendo una novela pero que recurre al acoso de tres mujeres de la vida real para poder escribir su historia. Ninguna de ellas se conoce y tampoco conocen a su asechador, lo único que tienen en común es que las tres son pelirrojas.

La Pelirroja Uno es una doctora soltera de aproximadamente cincuenta años, la Pelirroja Dos una profesora de escuela quien ya está en la década de los treintas y la Pelirroja Tres una estudiante de diecisiete años. Las tres son vulnerables, las tres están en la mira de un obsesionado psicópata quien desea llevar a cabo su última obra de arte: matar a las tres pelirrojas.

La trama de esta trepidante historia tiene como primer basamento al terror y acoso psicológico provocado por un hombre mayor hacia tres mujeres y que al final debe terminar en sus respectivas muertes. Este acoso es hecho mediante la comparativa con el relato de los Hermanos Grimm, Caperucita Roja, en la que él es el Lobo Feroz y Caperucita son las tres mujeres.

La tensión se intensifica en cada una de ellas cuando, a través de diferentes medios, se van enterando que están siendo vigiladas más de cerca que lo que ellas creen. Tal situación acrecienta el pánico en ellas, las desespera y no saben qué hacer: ¿Esconderse? ¿Escapar? ¿Pelear? ¿Intentar ser más astutas que el psicópata Lobo Feroz? Parece que ya no hay nada qué hacer: la suerte está echada.

Una novela realmente fascinante, inquietante, envolvente y a veces asfixiante. Al final de la historia el lector queda con una pregunta en mente: ¿Realmente hay alguien a mi alrededor que está invadiendo mi privacidad para atentar en mi contra? No te sentirás igual una vez que vuelvas a salir a la calle.

Are you sure that your “private life” is really private? Have you ever had the feeling that someone is watching you at any moment?

[…] The opening lines were delivered without salutation or introduction:
“One bright, fine day Little Red Riding Hood decided to take a basket of delicious goodies to her beloved grandmother, who lived on the far side of the deep, dark woods…” You undoubtedly first heard the story years ago when you were small children. But you were probably told the sanitized version: The grandmother hides in her closet and Little Red Riding Hood is saved from becoming the Big Bad Wolf’s next meal by the brave woodsman with his sharp axe. In that retelling, everything ends happily ever after.  In the original, there is a far different and much darker outcome. It would be wise for you to keep that in mind over the next few weeks. You do not know me, but I know you. There are three of you. I have decided to call you: Red One. Red Two. Red Three. I know each of you is lost in the woods. And just like the little girl in the fairy tale, you have been selected to die.

John Katzenbach surprises us with this story of suspense, intrigue and psychological terror about a writer who is writing a novel, but he harasses to three real women in order to write his story. None of them knows each other and the women don’t know their harasser either. Those three women have in common one thing: they are redheads.

Red One is a single doctor and she is about a fifty-year woman, Red Two is a school teacher and she is about a thirty-year person, and Red Three is a student, she is seventeen years old. All three are vulnerable women, all three are in the sights of an obsessed psychopath who wants to reach his latest artwork: to kill the three redhead women.

The plot of this thrilling story has as first basement the psychological harassment produced by an old man towards three women. Those actions must finish in their respective deaths. This harassment is done by comparing to the Brothers Grimm’s tale: Little Red Riding Hood, in which he is the Big Bad Wolf and the three redhead women are Little Red Riding Hood.

Each woman gets more stiffened and stressed when they realize, through different means, that they’re being watched more closely than they think. That situation increases the panic that they feel. Also, that desperate to them and they don’t know what to do: Hide? Run away? Fight? Try to outwit the psychopathic Big Bad Wolf? It seems there is anything to do: the dice are rolled.

A truly fascinating, worrying, enveloping and sometimes suffocating novel. At the end of this story the reader asks for him/herself: Is there really someone around me who is invading my privacy to attack me? You won’t feel the same way once you’re out to the street again.
