¿Qué pasa cuando en nuestras manos ya no está aquel poder con el que podíamos arrasar contra cualquiera? ¿Tenemos la misma influencia en la sociedad?

 

 

 

En ningún momento su padre había dejado de estar allí. Ella se había refugiado bajo sus alas; él había sido siempre benigno, siempre tierno con ella. Era |hombre viejo, según decían, pero ella nunca había pensado en su muerte; subconsientemente, pensaba en él como en un ser inmortal. ¡El gran cardenal de su infancia, cuya llegada traía tanta alegría a sus aposentos de infancia, el gran Papa de su adolescencia y de sus primeros tiempos de mujer, temido por todos, amado en forma tan devota por ella y que la había amado como parecía que sólo un Borgia podía amar a otro Borgia! «¡Muerto!» se murmuraba a sí misma con voz asombrada. «¿Muerto?» se preguntaba. No podía ser. No podía haber tanta desdicha en el mundo.

 

(CAPÍTULO VII: LA GRAN CALAMIDAD).

 

 

 

Una frase que un día apliqué con esta familia es: “los Borgia nunca decepcionan”, y así es. Una segunda parte completamente fascinante, quizá un poco más que la primera.

 

En esta entrega parece que comenzamos a tener el declive de está imperiosa familia. Ya teníamos la muerte de Juan Borgia por el propio hermano, el gran César Borgia. Acontecimiento que representó un golpe muy duro, especialmente para su hermana Lucrecia y Rodrigo “el Papa Borgia, Alejandro VI”.

 

Aquí, ya tenemos un enfoque más enfático sobre Lucrecia Borgia, pero ahora, lejos de Roma y de su núcleo familiar (César y el Papa). La dicha no parece acompañarla todo el tiempo, pasará por muchas pérdidas de hijos (herederos de Ferrara), separación de sus primeros niños tenidos en las primeras uniones, muerte de esposos que plenamente había amado. Y los maridos actuales tampoco parecen amarla y quererla como ella desearía, todo su entorno parece que conspirara contra ella. Sin embargo, otros hombres pretenden ganar más que su afecto, entre ellos Pietro Bembo y Francesco Gonzaga.

 

En los últimos años de su vida, Lucrecia siente que ahora vive una desdicha tan grande proporcional a lo que fue la gloria de los Borgia en Roma antes de la muerte de Alejandro VI. En efecto, esa intocable gloria sólo se debía a una única persona, a su padre el gran Rodrigo Borgia; con su partida también, se iría su poder poco a poco.

 

Realmente, “los Borgia nunca decepcionan”.

 

 

Calificación Personal: 9,5 de 10 puntos (EXCELENTE).

What happens when we no longer have in our hands that power with which we could sweep away anyone? Do we have the same influence on society?

 

 

 

At no time had her father ceased to be there. She had taken refuge under his wings; he had been always benign, always tender with her. He was an old man, they said, but she had never thought of his death; subconsciously, she thought of him as an immortal being. The great cardinal of her childhood, whose coming brought so much joy to her childhood chambers, the great pope of her adolescence and early womanhood, feared by all, loved so devotedly by her, and who had loved her as it seemed that only a Borgia could love another Borgia! "Dead!" she murmured to herself in an astonished voice. "Dead?" she wondered. It could not be. There could not be so much wretchedness in the world.

 

(CHAPTER VII: THE GREAT CALAMITY).

 

 

 

A phrase I once applied to this family is, "the Borgias never disappoint," and so it is. A thoroughly fascinating second part, perhaps a bit more so than the first.

 

In this installment we seem to begin to have the decline of this imperious family. We already had the death of Juan Borgia by his own brother, the great Cesare Borgia. Event that represented a very hard blow, especially for his sister Lucrezia and Rodrigo "the Borgia Pope, Alexander VI".

 

Here, we already have a more emphatic focus on Lucrezia Borgia, but now, far from Rome and her family nucleus (Cesare and the Pope). Happiness does not seem to accompany her all the time, she will go through many losses of children (heirs of Ferrara), separation of her first children had in the first unions, death of husbands she had fully loved. And her current husbands do not seem to love and cherish her as she would wish either, her whole environment seems to conspire against her. However, other men pretend to win more than her affection, among them Pietro Bembo and Francesco Gonzaga.

 

In the last years of her life, Lucrezia feels that she now lives a misfortune as great as the glory of the Borgia in Rome before the death of Alexander VI. Indeed, that untouchable glory was only due to a single person, her father the great Rodrigo Borgia; with his departure, too, their power would gradually fade away.

 

Truly, "the Borgia never disappoint".
