¿Es posible que exista una llave mágica que abra el corazón de las mujeres? ¿Habría forma de acceder al secreto que gobierna la misteriosa voluntad del amor femenino?

«¡Oh, mi América, mi dulce tierra hallada», escribe Mateo Realdo Colombo (o Mateo Renaldo Colón, según consigna la rúbrica hispanizada) en su De re anatómica. No es esta una prorrupción presuntuosa a guisa de ¡Eureka!, sino un lamento, una amarga parodia de sus propios avatares y de su infortunio, proyectada sobre la figura de su tocayo genovés, Cristóphoro. Un mismo apellido y, acaso, un mismo destino. No los une parentesco y la muerte de uno sucede apenas a doce años del nacimiento del otro. La «América» de Mateo es menos remota e infinitamente más breve que la de Cristóbal; de hecho, no excede en mucho las dimensiones de la cabeza de un clavo. Sin embargo, debió permanecer silenciada hasta la muerte de su descubridor y, pese a la insignificancia de su tamaño, no provocó menos revuelos.

Es el Renacimiento. El verbo es Descubrir. Es el ocaso de la pura especulación a priori y de los abusos del silogismo, en favor de la empiria de la mirada. Es, exactamente, la primavera de la mirada. Quizá Francis Bacon en Inglaterra y Campanella en Italia repararon en el hecho de que mientras los escolásticos derivaban en los repetidos laberintos del silogismo, el bruto de Rodrigo de Triana, a la misma hora, gritaba «¡Tierra!» y, sin saberlo, precipitaba la nueva filosofía de la mirada.

(PRÓLOGO: LA PRIMAVERA DE LA MIRADA).

Desde siempre la figura de la mujer en la historia de la humanidad ha estado en un segundo plano o simplemente ha sido inexistente desde puntos de vista como: lo social, lo político, lo religioso. Este hecho se percibe con mayor énfasis en épocas como Edad Antigua (siglo III al siglo V), Edad Media (siglo VI hasta mediados del siglo XV), Edad Moderna (a partir de mediados del siglo XV). Posiblemente este nivel de importancia otorgado a la mujer se debió al desconocimiento de la figura humana femenina, entre ello, a su anatomía.

Sin embargo, un hombre, Mateo Renaldo Colón, anatomista del siglo XVI, quien llevaba a su cargo la cátedra de anatomía de la Universidad de Padua, realiza un grande y escandaloso hallazgo relacionado con la anatomía femenina, específicamente de sus genitales. Descubrimiento que escandalizó al decano de la misma universidad y a los mismos doctores de la iglesia: el «Amor Veneris».

Mateo Colón, después de haber estudiado gran cantidad de mujeres llega a la conclusión que las mujeres poseen un pequeño órgano en sus genitales que es el causante del mayor placer sexual experimentado por ellas, un órgano parecido a un pequeño pene masculino, un órgano que representa la llave mágica que abre el corazón de las mujeres, el secreto que gobierna la misteriosa voluntad del amor femenino. El dominio del «Amor Veneris» sería el dominio de las mujeres en sí.

Federico Andahazi en esta espléndida obra narra parte de la vida de este personaje Mateo Colón, sus andanzas realizadas en pro de la ciencia, el descubrimiento y entendimiento humano, pero que siempre pretende enaltecer y alabar a Dios como creador de todas las cosas.

De una forma deliciosamente poética y filosófica, sin apartarse de los hechos históricos, este autor expone lo que se cree es el descubrimiento más escandaloso del momento; dicho en con un término más actual: el clítoris.

En el último tercio de esta novela, Andazahi narra de forma sin igual, y a modo de defensa ante un tribunal, el tratado y/o descubrimiento hecho por Mateo Colón: «De re anatomica», con diecinueve partes perfectamente acopladas y con un sustento médico, científico, filosófico y teológico.

Es realmente una novela fascinante, otra obra maestra de Federico Andahazi, la cual recomiendo a aquellas personas amantes de este género y de los libros de este autor.

«Oh, my America, my sweet found land», writes Mateo Realdo Colombo (or Mateo Renaldo Colombo, according to the hispanized rubric) in his De re anatómica. This is not a presumptuous Eureka-like prorruption, but a lament, a bitter parody of his own vicissitudes and misfortune, projected on the figure of his Genoese namesake, Cristóphoro. The same surname and, perhaps, the same destiny. They are not related and the death of one occurs only twelve years after the birth of the other. Mateo's «America» is less remote and infinitely shorter than Cristobal's; in fact, it does not exceed by much the dimensions of the head of a nail. Nevertheless, it must have remained silent until the death of its discoverer and, despite the insignificance of its size, it provoked no less uproar.

It is the Renaissance. The verb is Discover. It is the decline of pure a priori speculation and of the abuses of syllogism, in favor of the empirics of the gaze. It is, exactly, the springtime of the gaze. Perhaps Francis Bacon in England and Campanella in Italy noticed the fact that while the scholastics were drifting into the repeated labyrinths of syllogism, the brute Rodrigo de Triana, at the same hour, was shouting "Earth!" and, without knowing it, was precipitating the new philosophy of the gaze.

(PROLOGUE: THE SPRING OF THE GAZE).

The figure of women in the history of humanity has always been in the background or has simply been nonexistent from points of view such as: social, political, religious. This fact is perceived with greater emphasis in times such as the Ancient Age (3rd to 5th century), the Middle Ages (6th century until the middle of the 15th century), and the Modern Age (from the middle of the 15th century). Possibly this level of importance given to women was due to the lack of knowledge of the female human figure, including its anatomy.

However, a man, Mateo Renaldo Colon, an anatomist of the sixteenth century, who was in charge of the chair of anatomy at the University of Padua, made a great and scandalous discovery related to the female anatomy, specifically of her genitals. This discovery scandalized the dean of the same university and the doctors of the church: the «Amor Veneris».

Mateo Colón, after having studied a great number of women, came to the conclusion that women possess a small organ in their genitals that is the cause of the greatest sexual pleasure experienced by them, an organ similar to a small male penis, an organ that represents the magic key that opens the heart of women, the secret that governs the mysterious will of feminine love. The domain of the «Amor Veneris» would be the domain of women themselves.

Federico Andahazi in this splendid work narrates part of the life of this character Mateo Colón, his adventures carried out in favor of science, discovery and human understanding, but always pretending to exalt and praise God as the creator of all things.

In a delightfully poetic and philosophical way, without departing from the historical facts, this author exposes what is believed to be the most scandalous discovery of the moment; said in a more current term: the clitoris.

In the last third of this novel, Andazahi narrates in a unique way, and as a defense in court, the treatise and/or discovery made by Mateo Colon: «De re anatomica», with nineteen parts perfectly coupled and with a medical, scientific, philosophical and theological support.

It is truly a fascinating novel, another masterpiece by Federico Andahazi, which I recommend to those who love this genre and the books of this author.
